Dr Peter Piot to head London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

GENEVA, 31 May 2010 – UNAIDS congratulates Dr Peter Piot on his recent appointment as Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Britain’s national school of public health and a leading institution for research and postgraduate education in global health.
“Peter brings to this new role extraordinary vision and a wealth of experience in global public health,” said UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé. “UNAIDS looks forward to strengthening its collaboration with the London School under Peter’s leadership.”
Dr Piot served as Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under Secretary-General of the United Nations between 1995 and 2008. He is the current Director of the Institute for Global Health and Professor of Global Health at Imperial College London.
