UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway stressed the importance of respect for human rights and dignity for all in ending the AIDS epidemic at a high-level event on the contribution of human rights and the rule of law in the post-2015 development agenda.
The high-level event, which took place on 9 and 10 June during the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly, aimed to examine how human rights, including the right to development, and the rule of law at the national and international levels can support an inclusive, people-centred development agenda.
The Crown Princess emphasized how existing stigma and discrimination are undermining advances in the AIDS response, and urged countries to ensure that the sexual and reproductive health and rights and other human rights of young people in general and of young people living with HIV in particular are a key priority.
