Marie-Odile Emond is the Senior Advisor for Programme Planning and Field Support in the Programme Branch. She currently leads the organization‘s strategic planning, performance monitoring and reporting processes to optimize effective impact for countries and communities as well as sound accountability.
She joined UNAIDS in 2000 and before her current role, has contributed to the global, regional and country AIDS responses in various management, programmatic and leadership capacities bringing a vast cross functional, regions and levels experience and knowledge: Country Director in Cambodia (2012-2017) and Viet Nam (2017-2019), Programme Development Adviser for West and Central Africa (2009-2012), Humanitarian Response Adviser (2005), Programme Development Adviser for the Asia Pacific and Middle East region (2004), Senior Adviser to UNAIDS first Executive Director (2001-2003, 2005-2007) and in External Relations Office in Governance (2000).
Prior to joining UNAIDS, she was the Head of Coordination, Communication and Information for UNDP and managed the UN Volunteer Programme in Burundi (1997-2000), led non-medical coordination of Doctors without Borders’ large humanitarian operations and financial management in Armenia, Liberia, Rwanda, Burundi (1991-1997). She also contributed to european economic analysis and a European Commission’s high education international cooperation initiative (1989-1993).
She holds two master’s degrees in Economics from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium and in International Relations from the University of Kent, United Kingdom and speaks English and French with basic knowledge of Spanish.
